Next door to the Juuban Book Mart, Usagi and Chibi-Usa stare through large windows at some wedding dresses. Usagi and Chibi-Usa say that their dreams are to someday be married and have a good career. Suddenly, Usagi runs over to the Juuban Book Mart to get the new issue of Ran-Ran, which came out that day.
At the Book Mart, Usagi's looking at the new issue of Ran-Ran when a distracted Chibi-Usa shows her the new issue of Boys' Press. On the cover is a picture of Rei. The title reads: "This week's beautiful girl: Mysterious Shrine Maiden: Hino Rei."

At the Hikawa Shrine, a huge crowd of boys are lined up to buy some talismans from Rei. The boys are all eager to talk to Rei, and Rei happily soaks up the attention. Usagi, Chibi-Usa, Minako, Mako, and Ami are also there. Usagi jealously looks at how popular Rei has suddenly become.
Finally, all the boys leave, and Usagi and the others approach Rei. Rei is very happy, since her shrine is getting lots of visitors. A cute pop-up shows crowds flowing into the shrine; the shrine grows into a large castle, then into a huge Taj Mahal of gold.
Rei: Rei's dream is to become a business woman and fly around the world! An international success life!
Usagi and Rei start arguing. Exasperated, Minako, Mako, and Ami decide to leave. As they're walking, they almost bump into a girl with light brown hair and starry eyes. The girl asks for the "mysterious shrine maiden," then introduces herself as Nanako. Nanako says she read the article in Ran-Ran, and she wants to be a shrine maiden and help Rei.
In the Dead Moon Circus, Zirconia kneels before the mirror, the shadowy figure of Queen Neherenia glowing on the mirror's face. Zirconia reassures Neherenia that she will be released soon, so Neherenia disappears. Zircon flies in, and gives Zirconia a picture of Nanako, the next target. Zirconia goes to tell the Amazoness Quartet, but the Quartet are fooling around. Zirconia yells at them to find Pegasus and the Golden Mirror quickly, and hands them the picture of Nanako.
Back at Hikawa Shrine, a large crowd of boys have gathered again to buy some shrine talismans. Nanako stands beside Rei with shrine garb on and a wig that resembles Rei's hair. Nanako imitates every movement of Rei's.
While Rei and Nanako are sweeping the ground around the shrine, Nanako tells Rei that she admires Rei, and that she wants to be just like Rei. Nanako suddenly hugs Rei and calls her "sister," then runs off to find a dustpan. Usagi and Chibi-Usa meet Nanako while she is looking for the dustpan, and asks her how she is doing. After some talking, Nanako says that she has dreams that are impossible to achieve; so, she wants to stay single and be a shrine maiden like Rei. Above Nanako, VesVes sits on the roof and watches.

The six girls and the three cats are gathered in one of the shrine's rooms. Usagi tells Rei what Nanako said to her, that Nanako has no dreams so she will stay single and be a shrine maiden. Rei gets upset.
Rei: I was wrong. What Nanako has been looking for is not me, but a shrine as an escape, where she doesn't have to chase her dreams! She's insulting me by saying that she wants to be a shrine maiden and she has no dreams! A shrine maiden's job is to bring dreams to people! Nevertheless, she has no dreams! Such a shrine maiden is not wanted!
Nanako, who had been about to enter the room to bring a bowl of candy to the girls, overhears. Shocked, she drops the bowl, and the girls realize Nanako is outside. Nanako takes off her wig, and, crying, she apologizes to Rei. She says she only wanted to be like Rei, and she runs off. Rei doesn't follow her, but the other girls do.
Nanako stands beside a tree, crying. VesVes approaches her and asks if she really doesn't have any dreams. Nanako confesses that she does.
Nanako: But, my dream is too big and too hard to realize...
VesVes shoots her Amazon ball at Nanako, and punches out her Dream Mirror. It's not the Golden Mirror, however. The Sailor Team, minus Sailor Mars, then shows up and says their speech. VesVes produces a Lemure, MareMare-chan. The Lemure looks like a female monkey with a clown face; it wears a green beret, green shirt, green gloves, and red pants, and it has a mouth directly underneath its breastbone. Venus uses her Love-Me Chain attack, but MareMare copies it exactly, and the Sailor Team is forced to dodge the attack. MareMare's face also morphs into Venus' face. Jupiter attacks, but MareMare, with the face of Jupiter, duplicates the attack again. Mercury is about to attack, but quickly reconsiders.
Meanwhile, Diana runs up to the untransformed Rei, and tells Rei to follow her.
MareMare-chan eats Nanako's Dream Mirror. With Nanako's sobbing face as its own, MareMare says Nanako's dream is to have a good boyfriend, lots of jobs, and fly around the world.
MareMare: Nanako's dream is an international success life! But, no! Nanako is a cowardly girl...I'm scared! I don't like myself like this! I want to be someone else! If I can become like Rei, I'm sure I won't lose my way, and will feel like a new person! That's what I thought!
Rei transforms and says her speech. She attacks with her Burning Mandala, but MareMare imitates it and the two attacks destroy each other. Mars tells Nanako that she shouldn't imitate others, and that she has the power to realize her own dreams. MareMare-chan gets very confused. Sailor Mars then charges forth with her new attack, "Mars Flame Sniper," and it fries MareMare. Chibi-Moon calls Pegasus, Moon destroys the Lemure, and the Dream Mirror returns to Nanako's body. VesVes leaves.
The next day, the six girls are dressed in shrine garb at the Hikawa Shrine. There are no visitors. Minako takes out the newest issue of Boys' Press, which has Nanako in a pretty waitress' outfit on the cover. Nanako then shows up, and she says she feels that she can realize her dreams in her own way. Rei playfully puts Nanako into a mock-headlock.
Rei: Any girl has the power to realize her own dreams!
